MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING

OF THE UTILITY COMMITTEE

CITY OF ORTONVILLE

TUESDAY, APRIL 3, 2007 1:15 P.M.

 

Chairman Cunningham called the meeting of the Utility Committee to order at 1:20 P.M.

 

Members present:  John Cunningham, Nick Anderson and Dan Oakes.

Staff present:  Judy Roberts, Tom Dew and Tim Scherer.

Others present:  Brent Nelson and Steve Berkner.

 

M/S/P  Anderson/Oakes to approve the agenda  with the addition of the Courthouse chiller.

 

M/S/P  Anderson/Oakes   Approval of the February 2, 2007 minutes.

 

Brent Nelson was present to request the reimbursement of the cost of  pouring extra concrete as the result of the City’s placement of the transformer for the courthouse. 

M/S/P  Oakes/Anderson  to recommend to the City Council the reimbursement of $650.00 to Brent Nelson from the Utility Fund.

 

Steve Berkner was present to discuss his high water bill.  After some discussion it was tabled until further information could be gathered.

 

Tim discussed the replacement of the raw water line.  After some discussion it was tabled until Tim could find out the cost of replacing the line under the river or strapping it to the side of the bridge.

 

Brent Nelsons bill for water and sewer installation was discussed.   M/S/P  Oakes/Cunningham to recommend to the City Council the denial of  Nelson’s payment of $2500.00 for the installation of the water & sewer services at his shop .  Nelson had sent payment along with the Ronglien bill to the City, the committee feels that Nelson is responsible for the full cost of the installation of the water and sewer lines.  Cunningham will talk to the EDA to see if there are funds for new commercial installations.

 

Terry Scherer’s request for a water line was discussed.   M/S/P  Cunningham/Oakes to recommend to the City Council to deny  his request for a water line, as this is not a feasible request.

 

Jim Nitz’s bill for water connection was discussed.  Nick Anderson will call and talk to him.

 

M/S/P  Cunningham/Anderson to recommend to the City Council that the cost of new residential water and sewer hookups be charged at $1250.00 for each service  where there is already existing utilities to the adjoining property.

 

M/S/P  Oakes/Cunningham to recommend to the City Council not to do credit cards at this time.

 

Tim discussed the preventative maintenance that is required at the Cleaning Clear Well

at the Water Plant and the other pumps that require maintenance.  Tim will talk to Banner Engineers about the cost of upgrading and checking the plant.

 

Cunningham adjourned the meeting at 3:05 P.M.
