at 6: 00 P. M. Roll call was taken with the following present: Mayor
Blair Johnson, Mike Dorry, Dan Oakes, John Cunningham, Bob Meyer. Absent:
Artie Arndt, Nick Anderson. Staff present: City Administrator David Lang,
Administrative Assistant Susan Lundell. Media present: Mike Swenson,

Also present: Jim Loeschke, Anna Rothi.
PUBLIC
HEARING:
Mayor Blair
Johnson called the Public Hearing to order at 6:00 PM. All interested
parties were invited to comment on the proposed 2008 Budget and Levy.
Mayor Johnson reported the budget had been cut 8.81% from last year and
will be set at $1,677,245 for 2008. The 2008 levy will be set at
$539,420, which is equivalent to a 6% increase.
Ortonville
resident Jim Loeschke stated he felt cutting the cost for leaf pick-up
from the current garbage contract would save the city some costs. He also
stated the leaf pick-up was held so late in the season it was ineffective.
Anna Rothi reported her taxes went up 24.9% overall which she felt was too
much. City Administrator Lang noted the typical portion of City taxes on
the property tax statement is approximately 25 percent of the total. The
Council explained the city portion of what was showing on her proposed tax
statement would be reduced due to the fact the City cut the proposed levy.
The reduction will show on her final statement. Reductions in police
department costs and other costs will factor into this decrease.
There being
no further testimony offered, Mayor Johnson closed the Public Hearing at
6:17 P.M.
Mayor
Johnson adjourned the meeting by consensus at 6:17 PM.
