Latest News/Projects:

9/7/2009 Update:  Paving the trail is coming to completion! - County Engineer, Nick Anderson, sent in a couple of pictures of the progress.

7/16/2009 Update:  The trail is being paved today!

Previous Update:  Work is underway on a new bike path which will lead from the southern end of Big Stone Lake to the Big Stone County Wildlife Refuge and our  Lakeside Park will be transformed into the Regional Trailhead.

Bike Trail:  6/22/09 - Nick Anderson, Big Stone County Engineer, advises that the trail grading and bridges will be complete next week.  If the County bonds for the surfacing, installation will be in late July.  If they cannot bond for the funding, they will be waiting for further Federal Funding in 2014 or 2015 (in this case, they will put an Asphalt Cement armor coat on it so it will be hard but not as smooth as a skate boarder would like it to be.)

As for the Lakeside Park/Trail Head project, City Council took action on June 15th to authorize Interstate Engineering, Inc. to proceed with preparation of plans and specifications for the following:

  1. Removal of the road and construction of the cul-de-sac.

  2. Construction of the Parking Lot with thickened edge sidewalks in lieu of curb and gutter.

  3. Grading for the playground.  This will include excavating to the bottom of the playground surface material, installation of a border (timber curb), and the chain link fence.
